Mr. Lee’s Talk – July 20, 2011

Good Evening. I am very happy that we all can once again gather here to offer congratulations to and to recognize those who have accomplished.

Ladies and Gentlemen, parents, teachers, and principal:

I am an educator. The principal is an educator. Our teachers are educators. Moms and Dads are educators. You are educators. But do you know that we are more than an educator? We are also the resources preservation worker. It is because the children’s future is the replenishing resources.

We are preserving such resources everyday by just doing whatever we have been doing in our daily living. I see a father motivating his toddler to walk around the park and play with him intimately on the side benches after the walk, I see resources. I see a mother giving supportive effort for her child playing on the field by yelling ‘Go, you can do it.’ a far distance from across the grass field without breaking for breath while caring for her baby, I see resources. I see a coach prep talking to a group of very small children for a game of soccer, I see resources. I see two teenage girl players who are already playing in a match on the field exchange supportive and comforting comments when one player kicks the ball outside the boundary, I see resources. I see happiness on everyone’s face, adults and children, I see resources. I see a man explaining how would the dirt and grass on the field affect the speed of the ball, I see resources. I see non-stop of motivating yelling from the sideline while the matches are being played, I see resources. I see our teachers teaching your young children persistently every day, I see resources. And I am sure that these are all the usual happenings that you and I will always see around us every day.

In order to make sure the children’s future can be preserved as replenishing resources, we need also to believe in ‘First 5 education’ and sustain quality school environment and atmosphere nurturing. ‘First 5 education’ helps the very young early learners set the firm fundamentals like developing positive attitude on learning and building confidence in reaching accomplishment in their beginning journey of education. Just as importantly, It is almost necessary that a very young early learner to be nurtured in a highly disciplined quality kindergarten.

Everyone here at Jordan Pak Hoi kindergarten strives for as both educator and resources preservation worker every day; that’s what we have been and will continue maintaining in our school from here onward.

As I am always emotional about every child who is leaving us today embarking to the exciting journey of education every year, that’s why 5 years ago I have already decided that I would give a memorabilia packet to each year’s graduating child. This memorabilia would contain the precious child growth captured during the 3 years and I insisted that each graduating child’s memorabilia is hand made by me.

I have also hand-made the souvenir for each of our school’s child attending tonight’s graduation ceremony. In order to promote the ‘A Good Child’ program, this year’s souvenir has additional special meanings, it is a Value Card. The card has the child’s picture and a ‘value’ element hoping to encourage the child to become a better child. Children are motivated to collect more of these Value Cards during their time with the school. I will inform all of you about this program in detail later in the next school year. Please collect your Value Card as you leave after the ceremony. I ask everyone to stay until the end of the ceremony.

晚安。我非常高興可以再次聚首一堂齊聲慶賀和確認所有能夠完成幼兒教育階段的學童。

各位父母,教師和校長:

我是教育工作者.校長是教育工作者.教師是教育工作者.爸爸媽媽是教育工作者.你們是教育工作者.但係你知唔知道所有教育工作者都是保育資源工作者呢.因為,孩子的將來是不斷的資源。

其實在我們日常生活中已是經常做著保育資源的工作.當我見到一位父親跟他的非常年幼的兒子在公園內一邊散步一邊親密地遊戲,我見到那位父親正在保育資源.當我見到一位母親在旁邊對著在球場內正在踢球的兒子大叫‘繼續努力,你一定做得到’而同時亦很悉心地照顧雙手抱著的BB,我見到那位母親正在保育資源.當我見到一位教練正在教導一組年齡很小的小朋友踢足球,我見到那位教練正在保育資源.當我見到兩位年輕的足球員正在足球比賽中互相交換勉勵支持的說話,我見到這兩位年輕球員正在保育資源.當我見到每一位成年人和孩子的快樂面孔,我見到豐富的資源.當我見到一位男士正在解釋地上的草和泥土如何影響足球的速度,我見到那位男士正在保育資源.當我見到在球場外所有人對著球場內的球員大喊‘加油,加油’,我見到所有人正在保育資源.當我見到我們的老師天天在教導你們的幼童,我見到老師們正在保育資源。我好相信我們一定會每天都見到這些情景不時在我們周邊發生。

要能夠確定孩子的將來能被保育為不斷的資源,我們需要相信所有幼兒都要在持續優良的學校與學習的環境和氣氛下接受頭5年教育.頭5年教育幫助非常年幼的孩子打緊穩健的根基,與此同時,幫助他們在教育旅程的開始時發展正面態度和建立學習信心.同樣重要地,這些年幼的孩子必須在優良專業的學校內接受教育。

在佐敦北海幼稚園,我們每位每天所做的都是盡心盡力去成為教育工作者和亦是保育資源工作者.這就是我們每日的工作去確保孩子的將來能夠成為不斷的資源。

因為我年年對會離開學校的畢業幼童都有一份‘唔啥得’的感情,所以5年前我已經開始每年我都會親手做畢業紀念品給每一位畢業幼童。而這個畢業紀念品其中包括一樣我認為是好珍貴的就是攝錄了幼童以往3年在本校內的成長片段的DVD。

而每年有到場參觀畢業典禮的每位本校學童都會收到我親手做的紀念品,為了配合‘成為好孩子計劃’,今年的出席紀念品更加多了一個特別意思,這份紀念品就係一張‘好孩子EQ元素CARD’。這張CARD上面有幼童的相片和一個成為好孩子的元素,我們亦會鼓勵幼童在校學習期間盡量爭取收集多張這樣的CARD,作為推動幼童有意慾去學習成為更好的孩子。詳情會在新的學年對各位清楚介紹。請家長齊手鼓勵幼童。請畢業典禮完成後離開時才領取,希望各位等待禮成後才離開。謝謝。Thank You. 

We are all the same.

   We treat each child the same. We treat each child with the same care and attention, the same preference and desire, and the same love and affection. We make sure each is treated indifferently than the other because it is the ONLY way to teach and love each child for a healthy growth.

   When the children are in school, we make all kinds of learning arrangements for each child base on the particular child’s strength, weakness, and characteristics. This is customized teaching but not prejudice.

   The languages used to teach and to communicate to children are Chinese and English, and body language as well; the main idea is to truly communicate with children to establish trust and comfort with them. It is the fact that both the Chinese and English languages are new to each young pre-school child when starting preschool, as it will only be more confusing and creating increasingly hardship for each young pre-school child to begin learning language communication with Chinese and English inter-changeably; therefore, the daily schooling teaching and communicating spoken language is on Chinese supplemented with English and/or on English supplemented with Chinese depending on the language background of the child. As the mostly used language in Hong Kong is Chinese, we teach young children English as a second language for the additional English learning ability as we are living in Hong Kong where the main spoken language is Chinese. Since we are talking about early childhood education which is all about teaching and helping very young children learn and grow, body language is even part of the daily communication tool. As we emphasize on a language balance learning program, each child is spending the same amount of time learning English, Chinese, and Putonghua.

一視同仁

   我們對待每一位幼童都是一視同仁。對待每一位幼童都是同樣的關懷和照顧,同樣的愛護和教導,同樣的愛心和感情。祇有同樣地教導和關愛每位幼童才可以肯定他們健康的成長。

   當我們為幼童安排各項的學習活動時,我們是按照每一位幼童的強點,弱點和特徵而作安排。這是個別獨特安排的教學而並非徧寵或歧視。

   在本園,教導幼童和與幼童溝通的語言是中文和英語,甚至加上身體語言。主要目的是要與幼童能真真正正地溝通去建立信任和令使幼童能放開心情來學習與成長。事實上無論中文或英文,對幼童來說都是陌生。尤其是當幼童初次開始入學學習,如不按照方法去教導他們中文和英文語文,幼童就會有好大機會對自己的語文能力產生混淆而提高了他們學習語文的困難。因此,我們教導幼童學習語文時要考慮個別幼童的語文背景而定以英文為先加以中文補充或以中文為先加以英文補充。香港是以中文為主的社會,因此我們相信以英文為第二語言的形式去教導幼童而令使他們學習多一種語文能力,最終希望日後他們的語文能力是中英文並行。因為幼兒教育最主要講求與幼童建立互相信任的溝通,從而教導和幫助他們去學習,並不單只學習中文英文,有效地運用身體語言去教導幼童亦是非常重要。我們非常重視均衡的語文學習課程,本園每位幼童每天都會用均等的時間學習中文,英文和普通話。

   我們再次重申讓各位家長知道本園一直致力教導幼童學取良好的英文語文能力為本園的主要核心課程。其實我們已經編排比較重的英文學習在於幼童之日常學習課程內。我們不斷做著以下3點工作以作加強本園的英文課程。

1) 各項的針對性的英文學習活動

  • 英文閱讀時間
  • 英文故事時間
  • 英文詩詞朗讀
  • 戲劇人物英文台詞朗讀
  • 英文字卡遊戲
  • 圖畫與寫字
  • 唱英文歌
  • 網上英文教育學習與遊戲
  • 英語交談

2) 我們不斷制做恰當的英語學習環境令使不論任何語文背景的幼童都可以每天在一個自然語文氣氛內學習英文。

3) 我們以經常親切的溝通來鼓勵幼童能夠產生興趣學習英文。

   我們相信幼童應該以輕鬆的心情和循序漸進地開始他們的學習旅程,使他們可以發展正面的學習態度,而不是以壓迫性地要他們強記語文。

   其中最重要的還是家長對幼童的學習過程中有參與幫助,對幼童和學校有耐心,明白和體諒;讓他們知道你會支持和信任他們。

Learning English at Jordan Pak Hoi Kindergarten

   You may have already known but we would like to reiterate that teaching our pre-school young children English is our core main concern and we have already incorporated emphasis on English learning in children’s daily learning.

   Here are what we have been doing reinforcing the daily English learning for your children at our kindergarten:

1) Various English targeted activities –

  • Book reading
  • Story reading
  • Poem reciting with memorization
  • Drama character reciting with memorization
  • Vocabulary Flash Cards to recognize words and learn them
  • Draw and Write
  • English songs singing
  • Internet educational English games
  • English conversation situation games

2) We have worked hard to create the atmosphere at our school so that the children regardless of their ethnic background could be exposed to a more natural English learning environment to learn English daily.

3) We encourage children constantly to learn English by establishing strong communication with them.

   We believe the English learning process especially for young children at pre-school will take time so that children can begin their first ever learning positively instead of pressuring them to start learning forcibly.

We need parents’ help in your children’s English learning process; parents need to help with patience and showing to your children that you are being helpful to them, you have  the understanding on them, and you are always being supportive for them.

你可能已經知道我們已有一段時間一直在鼓勵幼童做到成為好孩子。我們經常拍攝幼童在校時有做到好孩子行為的照片以鼓勵他們繼續做到好孩子。也經常與幼童們談及要甚麼做才成為好孩子。現在懇請家長的合作,也同時齊來幫手教育和鼓勵幼童在家時也能做到成為好孩子。

Do you want to be a better child?

Simple, you can be a better child if you:

  • have good manners

  • do not tell lies

  • are helpful

  • are friendly

  • are willing to participate

  • are willing to cooperate

  • have courage to perform

  • are not lazy

  • are always happy

You would have probably known that we have been encouraging children to become good children at school for sometime already. We have been taking photos of children who have done things that would make them better children, and we have been talking with children regularly about what they need to do to become good children. We are now asking you, as parents, to help your children to become good children at home. Please talk with your child regularly on things that they need to do to become a good child.

Supervisor Mr Lee’s Talk – July 17th, 2010

Good Evening; parents, principal, teachers, and children.

Although children would cry and laugh continuously, or fall down and get up relentlessly, we know they will always move forward. Children have the powerful forces to drive changes required for their growth because they are the continuation of time on earth.

In general, some educators and parents would very much concern children’s growth and progress, and because of this concern, they would usually like to measure children’s well beings in terms of success. In order to measure success, children are judged upon how much they have learned to know and compare children with their peer to see who is better than the other.

So, may I ask? What is success? Well, it’s simple. Success is Love.  Love is you know you can do all those things during the day when you first open your eyes in the morning. We want our young children to have love to be able to do all those things that are lined up for them to do during the day and the love to come home after school feeling much confident with which the child’s facial expression is showing happiness. Therefore, the principal’s, the teachers’ and my utmost important job is to help our young children to build and maintain love, because when a child has love, the child is already successful at the very young age and ready to move onward from the child’s beginning.

An important factor to help children build that love is a bilateral communication. That’s why we have been working hard to build and maintain bilateral communication with our young children and with the parents as well. Taking photos and videos of our young children on a regular basis and showing these photos and videos with a theme both to the children themselves and their parents serve one of the best ways to establish such bilateral communication with children and the parents. This also explains why we have been taking photos and videos of all our young children on a regular basis; it all serves a simple but very important purpose, we are open and want to have that communication with you. So, what are the good things about communication? Well, communication helps clear misunderstanding among children, parents, and us; it is problem solving; it helps us to better understand our children and to help our children’s behavioral acts and coping; furthermore, communication helps parents to understand their children even more.

I would like to take this opportunity to briefly talk about the importance of early childhood education – some people call it ‘first 5’ education. Research has found that: First, the brain develops rapidly during the first five years and quality preschool programs can have a profound impact during this time. Second, children who attend a quality preschool do better in elementary school and beyond, and have more success in reading and math. Third, as they grow, children who attended preschool are more likely to graduate from high school and find good jobs, and less likely to be involved in crime.

For the moment during the process, we can only see the flow of children changes and we are sure there will be many questions in the process; we don’t know all the answers to the questions but for certain I would like to tell you, we want to help, we want to help these young children change and grow from as far front of the beginning toward the longest extension of time. We are fundamentally dedicated to help children grow forward.

李校監的說話 – 二零一零年七月十七日

各位家長,校長,各位老師,各位小朋友; 你們好.

雖然孩子們會不斷地笑和哭,或者不停地跌倒和抓起來,我們知道他們定必會向前推進.孩子們擁有強勁動力推動支配自己成長所需要之轉變因為他們是地球上時間的延續。

一般來講,作為教育工作者和父母,他們會非常關注孩子們的成長和進度.因為這些關心,他們通常會量度孩子是否成功來衡量他們的生活和成長是否開心和健康。而量度他們的成功,有些教育工作者或者父母會評核孩子能夠學懂幾多知識和會將每位孩子的學習與成長表現互相比較。

就此,請容許我作問甚麼是成功?其實好簡單,成功就是愛,無條件的愛。因為愛係一鼓力量,愛係當你一早清晨放開雙眼時就知道你定必可以能夠做到今日你需要 做的所有事。我地希望我們的孩子擁有這鼓愛的力量來幫助他們完成做到需要他們每天要做的所有事。同時亦會有這鼓愛的力量培同他們放學回家時在他們的面孔上 表露著開心燦爛的笑容而你就會知道他們是充滿自信的感覺去迎接新的一天,新的挑戰.因此,校長,老師和我最重要的工作就是幫助我們的幼兒建立和保持這鼓愛 的力量。當孩子們擁有愛,他們已經能夠達到幼年的成功,準備好從他們的幼年開始向前邁進。

其中一項重要的因素去幫助孩子建立愛的力量是雙向溝通。所以我們一直不斷努力地與孩子和家長建立和保持雙向溝通。我們會做成習慣地鼓勵孩子們和我們 及老師談話溝通;也定時為孩子們的成長情況以拍照片和拍攝錄像形式來作記錄,與此同時亦定時將被編輯過的相片與影片加上主題公開顯示給家長和孩子觀賞,這 樣做法就可以與家長和孩子建立和保持良好的雙向溝通。所以我們一直會定時為孩子拍照片和拍攝錄像就是為了一個簡單但重要之目的而就是對你們家長公開學校和 建立溝通.其實,保持溝通有甚麼好處?良好的溝通能幫助解除孩子家長和老師間之誤會;它可以幫助解決問題;良好的溝通亦可以讓我們進一步了解我們的孩子從 而幫助改善他們的不良行為和幫助他們學習應付難題;還有,良好的溝通是可以讓家長多些了解他們自己的仔仔女女.。

我想藉著今晚這個機會跟各位講出有關早期幼兒教育的3項非常重要元素。有人叫這個學習時段為 - 頭5年教育。有研究結果指出:第一,每位幼兒在頭5年的腦部發展是非常迅速而在這時段加上配合高質素的幼兒教育就會絕對能夠幫助幼孩建立一個良好和深遠的學習基礎。第二,幼兒如果能夠接受高質素的早期幼兒教育和幼稚園教育,幼兒定必可以有陸續良好的學習經歷和可以繼續升學無間。第三,幼孩如果有完成幼稚園教育亦會有好大機會完成高等教育繼而找到合適工作,而避免了誤入歧途。

當係現時這個過程中,我們只能夠看到孩子們成長著的轉變流程,同時我們會知道在這個過程中一定有好多不同的問題,我們或是暫時不會清楚知道所有問題的答案,但是我可以肯定的話給各位聽,我們是樂意幫助。我們是樂意幫助孩子們成長和改變得更好,從他們的幼年開始直至到最長延續的時間。我們是穩健地全心全意去幫助幼兒健康地向前成長。
